One of the reasons why Washington, DC is so kid friendly is the number of free activities for families to explore without spending a dime! DC has over 160 monuments and memorials to visit – the most popular ones include the Washington Monument, Jefferson, Lincoln and FDR memorials and the memorials dedicated to the soldiers that served in WWI, WWII, Vietnam and Korea. Visiting the White House is also free but you need to plan in advance to request a tour with your local congressman or senator.

The DC Metro also makes it easy to take the little ones around town for a day of sightseeing by allowing up to two child under the age of four to ride free with each paying adult. It beats looking for parking as you jump around town.
