Most major cities around the country and the world hold at least one marathon per year, but not every city boasts one as fun, spirited, and large as the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon & Half Marathon. Marathon weekend begins Thursday, March 12, 2015 with the two-day Health and Fitness Expo. For the thousands of runners who descent upon DC annually for the road races, this expo is a large part of the event’s appeal, drawing 80 exhibitors to the spacious Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Visitors will be able to enjoy and check out the latest in high-end running gear, athletic apparel and nutritional supplements — along with plenty of free samples. In addition to serving as the home base for the DC running community for several days, the expo provides runners a central location at which to pick up their race number, T-shirt and bag for the actual race.
At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K races will begin. The experience of running this race or viewing it offers a number of exciting opportunities. The scenic course weaves through the iconic National Mall, bringing runners past the White House, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Museums, and more. As if the pillars of our nation’s pride and success aren’t inspiration enough for the thousands of participants, the Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon adds cheer sections and live bands to the course, providing some rejuvenative and inspirational flair to the race course.
While pushing past their physical limits, runners will enjoy the incredible experience of passing by cheer teams and live bands during the run. The event has an open call for cheer teams and dance squads to help line the course with encouragement and spirit. In the same vein, live bands will hold performances course-side providing the runners with a musical journey through the sounds of classic genres like rock, jazz, punk, and soul.
To add to the festive nature of this event, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & Half Marathon will end with a finish line party, featuring headlining band Better than Ezra. The pop-rock band from New Orleans will provide the perfect cap off to an excellent day of music and running. From the entertainment to the atmosphere to the expo, there are plenty of reasons to participate in or head out and watch this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon and Half Marathon.
The Capitol Hill Hotel is located within minutes of both the start and finish lines of the marathon, making it an ideal choice among DC Marathon hotels.
