1968: An American Odyssey at NPG

There are a lot of elements of the social revolution in 1968 that might not be family friendly but you can trust the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery to present the time in a respectful fashion. This year-long exhibition showcases the brilliant art, historical events, and figures of this radical year in American history.

4th of July Fireworks

Located on the National Mall, the 4th of July Fireworks in Washington, DC are as American as it gets. The celebration also includes an Independence Day Parade, and a Capitol Fourth—a free annual concert featuring the National Symphony Orchestra.

July 28th – August 5th

The Washington Citi Open is a joint professional tennis tournament that brings the world’s best to some local hard-court, outdoor venues to compete in DC every summer. The unique sporting event is fun for all ages.

Jazz In The Garden

May 18 – August 24th

Throughout the summer, Washington, DC hosts Jazz In The Garden—a free concert series in the Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery of Art. You can catch a variety of acts at these Friday-night musical celebrations.
