The new year is in full swing, and as we look out to the year ahead, one thing is apparent—it’s going to be another good year for live music in the District. Here are five concerts to look forward to in DC in 2016.

Rihanna at the Verizon Center
March 22nd

In celebration of her upcoming studio album Anti, this tour is heavily anticipated. A guaranteed medley of tracks from the pop icon’s already illustrious career and new tracks that the world has been waiting for, make this one of the most exciting DC concerts. Trap artist and producer Travis Scott is also on the bill.

Father John Misty at the Lincoln Theatre
April 25th

The mellow twang ballads of Father John Misty have brought him to high esteem in the world of popular music since playing with the Fleet Foxes and Saxon Shore. Join the singer-songwriter for a night of songs from his 2015 album I Love You Honeybear. California indie pop group Tess and Dave will open.

A Star-Spangled Birthday Party at the US Capitol
July 4th

Every year A Capitol Fourth offers an electrifying concert in our nation’s capitol for Independence Day. Produced by PBS and held as a grand spectacle on the West Lawn of the US Capitol, this annual gathering has seen past performers such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Dolly Parton. Last year featured KC and the Sunshine Band, and we are sure the 2016 installment will attract another iconic act.

Janet Jackson at the Verizon Center
August 9th

Janet Jackson’s album Unbreakable, released in October, 2015, has revived her career defined by booming vocals and distinct soul. After three months of touring through Europe and the United States, the act will finally hit DC at one of its most popular venues.

Landmark Music Festival
September

Last year, the inaugural Landmark Music Festival brought big name headliners and a classic festival format to the National Mall for the first time. We are excited to see how they follow last year’s lineup, which featured Drake, The Strokes, and George Ezra.
