Capitol Hill, just east of the iconic Capitol Building and the sprawling National Mall, is one of the District’s most beloved neighborhoods. But we love our neighboring neighborhoods too. Here are some of the best neighborhoods in Washington DC to explore near Capitol Hill.


The Navy Yard is a former industrial district near Capitol Hill, overlooking the Anacostia River. Home to major renovations in recent years, the Navy Yard is now one of the most densely populated and lively areas in the city. You can learn about ongoing events, top-of-the-line restaurants, and shopping experiences in the Navy Yard at The Yards.


Noma is a neighboring area of Capitol Hill, and its name stands for North of Massachusetts Avenue. You can find unique charms in this area, including one of the city’s best food halls—Union Market, where several of the city’s best restaurants have stands. It’s also a haven for independent art galleries and modern architecture.


This primarily residential neighborhood on the northwest tip of the U.S. National Arboretum is home to some good barbecue and seafood restaurants.
