In a city with a rich jazz history—DC was home to Duke Ellington, Shirley Horn and Billy Taylor—continuing to promote the genre is important. The DC Jazz Festival does just that by showcasing emerging and established talent for a half-month every year. This year’s run will feature a number of renowned acts including the Eddie Palmieri Latin Jazz Septet, Kamasi Washington, hip-hop icon Talib Kweli, and Ravi Coltrane. For a little local flavor, check out the Chuck Brown Band, a tribute to the late legend who pioneered DC’s distinct GoGo generation.
