A Guide to Pride Month In DCOthers
With the Capitol Hill Hotel’s Glisten Pride Package, your trip to DC is bound to get even better. Available through the month of June, for Pride Month, the Glisten package includes tickets to a drag brunch, free wine and entitles guests to room upgrades when available. 10 percent of proceeds from rooms booked through the package will be donated to GLSEN, the leading education organization creating safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ youth. Once you’ve booked the GLSEN Package, get to planning your trip. Here are the top five Pride Month perks we’re most excited for. Brunch It Up Fuel up for the weekend’s activities at Drag Brunch at Nellie’s Sports Bar on U Street, one of the city’s top LGBTQ hangouts. The Capitol Hill Hotel will be offering tickets for 10:30am and 1pm seatings on Saturday and Sunday so you can enjoy some breakfast fare while taking in a drag performance. 900 U St NW, Washington, DC 20001 (202) 332-6355 Nurse Your Sweet Tooth When you arrive at your hotel room, you’ll get to enjoy a complimentary rainbow-colored, chocolate-dipped bottle of wine, a gift from the Capitol Hill Hotel to get you excited about upcoming Pride events. Pour out a glass and say cheers to an exciting night ahead! Women’s Spoken Word Although parades and parties are part of what makes Pride Month great, we also love an event that focuses on Pride’s more intellectual elements. For an experience you’ll love, head to Busboys and Poets’ annual Women’s Spoken Word event, which will include an open pic for all women-identifying folk to exchange their experiences, as well as a live band and burlesque show. Date: Monday, June 5, 2017, 8:00 PM Location: Busboys and Poets, 1025 5th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 March for Fairness and Equality While many Pride events are about celebrating and having fun, there’s a serious element to the month as well. This June’s Equality March for Unity and Pride is a moment to think about the challenges the LGBTQ community has confronted and is continuing to fight against. Join this important movement and rally for justice and equality for all. Head to the Capital Pride Parade This annual event is one of Pride Month’s biggest draws, with floats from a variety of local business, nonprofits, and corporations. Marchers in the Capital Pride Parade will navigate through the 17th Street NW stretch and will be dancing along to popular tunes, passing out favors, and showing their commitment to the LGBTQ community. Date: Saturday, June 10th, 2017, 4:30 PM Starting Location: 22nd & P Streets, NW, Washington, DC
